Pay and benefits

This section outlines the statutory pay and benefit entitlements under the National Minimum Wage Act 2000 and provision of PRSAs under the Pensions (Amendment) Act 2002. It also contains reports compiled from remuneration surveys, which provide comparative statistics on various allowances and pay arrangements such as business travel and subsistence, call-out, overtime and shift work.

Recent pay claims before the Labour Court

21/09/2017 - As the Irish economy continues to recover, trade unions have been looking for wage increases for their members, in the absence of any nationally agreed collective wage bargaining. A number of these claims have come before the Labour Court.

Latest Ibec research on pension schemes

15/05/2017 - The Ibec survey on conditions of employment was undertaken in September 2016. A total of 373 companies responded to the survey. The total employed by these companies is 67,224 employees. This report provides a statistical report of pension schemes in the companies surveyed. Over eight out of ten companies (82%) have a pension scheme in operation. Of those with a pension scheme in operation, 223 (73%) have a defined contribution scheme and 40 (13%) have a defined benefit scheme in place.

Latest research on employees rostered to work on a Sunday

30/03/2017 - This Ibec survey on Sunday working was carried out in 2016. Of the total of 373 respondents, just over a third (34%) indicated that they have employees rostered to work on Sundays. Of these, 126 provided details of whether Sunday was a part of their normal roster.

Increase in pay claims before the Labour Court reflects improving economy

28/11/2016 - Due to the ongoing improvement in the Irish economy, a number of disputes involving claims by trade unions for increases in pay have come before the Labour Court. Many of these claims are in the form of pay restoration. The Labour Court annual report 2015 has stated that recent pay claims have tended to be in the order of 2% to 2.5% for a 12 month period where the Court believed the increase in pay was justified and sustainable. Ibec pay trend survey findings published in October of this year indicated that pay awards in 2016 remained relatively modest, with a median increase of 2.2% recorded in respondent companies.

06/05/2002 - The main aim of the Pensions (Amendment) Act 2002 is to increase pension coverage and to make it easier for the individual to gain access to a pension arrangement which can be tailored to meet changes of employment and period of unemployment for whatever reason.
