Industrial Relations Legislation

The Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2015 has been signed into law

27/07/2015 - The Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2015 has been signed into law and will come into effect in the coming weeks. Thankfully, Ireland's voluntarist approach to industrial relations has been preserved under the new legislation.

Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2012

10/08/2012 - The Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2012 was enacted on 24 July 2012 and was brought into operation on 1 August 2012. The Act amends the Industrial Relations Act 1946 and a number of other statutes. The Act provides revised procedures for the making of Employment Regulation Orders and Registered Employment Agreements.

Collective redundancy in Ireland – when consultation fails

14/02/2012 - Historically, industrial relations in Ireland have been based on the concepts of voluntarism and legal abstention. However, it would not be true to say that Irish laws as they currently relate to industrial relations are entirely voluntarist. While there is no statutory obligation on employers to engage in collective bargaining, there are some circumstances where employers are legally obliged to apply the outcome of collectively bargained terms and conditions to their employees.

The Industrial Relations Act 1990 – Twenty Years On

22/07/2010 - This Act, more than any other has provided the framework for which much of the current landscape of workplace relations in Ireland has evolved.
